Travel and Tourism as a potential sector for the growth of the economy and it constitute about 30% of the GDP and a great employment provider.The growth in the infrastructure and government initiative have increased the number of tourism to India from abroad and also due to increasing income level and levish life style and advent of low cost airlines the Indian tourist have also increased.
This increase is not only confined to big metropolitan but to teh 2-3 tiers cities.The potential for expansion and growth exist in the towns as most of the oppoetunity were initiated way back in the metros and they have reached the satutation level.
The online travel business looks great but the barrier exists in it too due to the fact the players already present have build their credibility in the market space and thus have earn the faith and trust of the customer.The small players who think to enter the online travel space will have to face intense competition from the players and thus they have to work on lower margins and in fact then also survival is not sure shot for them.
The biggest and most recognized player in the travel sector being MMT have created its own niche market for the travel related services by its presence in the market space since 2000.
Other players in this sector include yatra, egeego, travelportal, indiatimes travel,and cleartrip.
